2012 Concerts and Events Presenting choirs from Australia, Czech Republic, Canada, Columbia, South Africa, Namibia, and the United States. Official Serenade! Festival events will begin June 28 - July 2, but we will have pre- and post-events that will feature festival choirs. Featured Serenade! Festival Concerts FRIDAY: JUNE 29th 7:30 pm - Serenade! Festival's "Opening Celebration" with a welcome address by Alexandria's Mayor W. D. Euille St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 228 South Pitt Street, Old Town Alexandria, VA - Admission FREE Take a trip around the world with this opening festival concert that will feature exciting and unique performances presented by choirs from Canada (Countermeasure and Cantaré Children's Choir), Colombia (Verata e Liberi), Australia (Young Adelaide Voices) and the USA (Boston City Singers). 7:00 pm - Serenade Festival's "African Freedom Songs" Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 901 Third Street NW, Washington DC - Admission Charge In partnership with Northwestern High School of Hyattsville, MD, Classical Movements will present outstanding South African choir- Imilonji KaNtu Choral Society. This concert will help raise tour funds for the Northwestern High School Choir's 2013 visit to South Africa to participate in the 2013 Ihlombe! Festival, produced by Classical Movements. Experience South African music like you've never heard before. SATURDAY: JUNE 30th 2:00 pm - Serenade! Festival's "Celebration of The Welcome Table Choir Benefit concert" Church of the Epiphany, 1317 G Street, NW, Washington, DC - Suggested Donation of $10 - $20 The Serenade! Festival is reaching out into the Washington, DC community and partnering with the Church of the Epiphany in Washington DC to help raise funds for The Welcome Table Choir, which is made up of homeless individuals living in DC. The mission of The Welcome Table is to feed the hungry, build diverse and inclusive community, and worship as one. Around 150 downtown impoverished individuals participate in the various aspects of The Welcome Table every Sunday morning. The concert will feature choirs from Namibia (Voices of Namibia), Australia (Young Adelaide Voices), and the USA (Minnetonka Chamber Choir and Boston City Singers). 6:00 pm - Serenade Festival's "African Evening" Alfred Street Baptist Church, 301 South Alfred Street, Alexandria, VA - Admission FREE In partnership with Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Classical Movements will present two exhilarating choirs from Africa (Imilonji KaNtu Choral Society and Voices of Namibia). You will not be able to stay seated during this foot stomping and hands clapping concert. 7:30 pm - Serenade! Festival's "Celebration in Historic Annapolis" St. Anne's Parish, 199 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD - Admission FREE The Serenade! Festival is reaching out to the communities beyond local Washington, DC to share the talents of the international choirs, allowing additional communities to experience world music. Featuring choirs from Czech Republic (Zvonky-Praha), Colombia (Verata e Liberi), Canada (Countermeasure) and the USA (Boston City Singers). SUNDAY: JULY 1st 4:30 pm - Serenade! Festival's "Celebration Concert of New and World Music" Proudly co-presented with the Music Center at Strathmore for the second year in a row GOOD NEWS! Serenade! Festival 1st of July concert at Strathmore Hall had to be changed due to power outage and changed to National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave NW, Washington DC 20016 - Metro Stop Tenley Town 15 minutes walk, ample parking available. Do not miss this wonderful concert. The concert will have a delayed start at 4:30 pm to accommodate patrons. - Admission FREE Choirs from South Africa (Imilonji KaNtu Choral Society), Colombia (Verata e Liberi), Australia (Young Adelaide Voices), Czech Republic (Zvonky-Praha), Namibia (Voices of Namibia), Canada (Countermeasure and Cantaré Children's Choir) and USA (Boston City Singers and Minnetonka Chamber Choir) will give audience members a full representation of the talent from the 2012 Serenade! Festival. The concert will feature choirs from Canada (Cantaré Children's Choir), Czech Republic (Zvonky-Praha), Australia (Young Adelaide Voices), and the USA (Minnetonka Chamber Choir), including a top local talent, the Children's Chorus of Washington. Serenade! Festival Community Concerts (Outreach, Embassy, and other Public Performances) Serenade! Festival Choirs will join The Welcome Table Choir, a choir of the homeless, to sing a Sunday morning service. Serenade Festival's "Colombian music at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital" Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 1:30 pm St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, 35 Getty Avenue, Building 400, Paterson, NJ - Admission FREE Verata e Liberi has been selected to perform an outreach concert for sick children of St. Joseph's Children's Hospital as part of the Medical Missions for Children Giggle Theater program. Giggles Children's Theater creates an atmosphere of levity for sick children and their families. Live performances are not limited to only those children well enough to visit the Giggles Theater. Each performance is broadcast live into the Hospital's closed-circuit TV system so that no child is excluded due to sickness or incapacity. Each performance is also recorded so that it can be shared with the over 100 children's hospitals around the world who also benefit from the charitable works of MMC, proving on a daily basis that"laughter is the best medicine".
