NSO's Triumphant 75th Anniversary West Coast Tour

The National Symphony Orchestra's celebration of its 75th Anniversary Season includes traveling coast-to-coast, through two tours and two residencies. In October the orchestra kicked off the celebrations on the West Coast, performing at five major venues in California, including Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, and the Segerstrom Hall at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Under the direction of Music Director Leonard Slatkin, the orchestra was joined by violin soloists Itzhak Perlman and Nikolaj Znaider on the tour; works by Barber, Bernstein, Bruch, Corigliano, Hovhaness,
and Tchaikovsky were performed.
The tour continued with an American Residency in Nevada during which the National Symphony Orchestra presented more than 50 educational, performance, and outreach activities from October 25 through 29. During this time, members of the NSO traveled throughout the metropolitan areas of Reno and Las Vegas to share their talent and passion for music with Nevada's
music educators, students, and audiences. The NSO's American Residencies are funded by the Kennedy Center through a U.S. Department
of Education grant that assists the National Symphony Orchestra in achieving their mission of supporting local arts organizations across the country.
Earlier in the year, North Carolina Arts Council and the National Symphony Orchestra collaborated in March to present the NSO's 2005 American Residency, which delivered over 100 education and performance activities in North Carolina to musicians and music lovers alike. The Residency took place between March 8 and 19, 2005, and included nine orchestral concerts (of which three were for younger audiences), numerous outreach programs and educational activities. Proceeds from the concerts benefited North Carolina arts organizations.
