South Africa Celebrates Florida's Singing Sons BoyChoir
The Boys Sing at the Church of Bishop Desmond Tutu
 This past June, Florida's Singing Sons Boychoir, directed by Craig Denison, embarked on an intense concert tour to South Africa. Performing 7 concerts in 14 days, the choir collaborated with numerous local choirs.
Their first concert was an evening joint performance in Kempton Park with three South African Youth Choirs including a Silver Medalist Girl's Choir from the 2008 World Choir Games in Graz. The next morning, they headed off for their "Tea and Trumpets" concert. This featured the boys and also included a Solo Violinist and a Youth Orchestra that reaches out to students from underprivileged townships. Later that same day, Florida's Singing Sons Boychoir sang with the Drakensberg Boys' Choir at the Linder Auditorium in a farewell performance before their international tour to Belgium. Florida's Singing Sons Boychoir's final two performances were joint concerts with a Male Choir in the Johannesburg area and a Youth Choir from Cape Town that won several Gold Medals in the 2008 World Choir Games.
The boys also had the privilege to be a part of a church service at a thriving township Church in Alexandra and High Mass at St. George's Cathedral, the church of Nobel Peace Prize Winner Bishop Desmond Tutu.
During their trip, Florida's Singing Sons Boychoir was fortunate enough to participate in an African Workshop with a Conductor of African Music at the University of Johannesburg and a Music Teacher at St. John's College. Together, they learned new African rhythms, songs and beats.
When not performing or rehearsing, the boys toured Pretoria, Soweto and the Cape Peninsula, among other places. They toured the Cradle of Humankind: hundreds of caves where the oldest known human skeleton was found. One of the highlights of the trip was their safari tour in Krugersdorp Game Reserve.
