The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas and Alondra de la Parra Mexico Tour and Latin Grammys POA Performs with Gloria Estefan, Kenny G, Carlos Santana and Jose Feliciano at the Latin Grammys
The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, directed by Alondra de la Parra, returned from Beyond Borders; another victorious tour in Mexico!
The tour started in Houston where Alondra de la Parra and P.O.A. received a most privileged invitation to perform at the Latin Grammys for the Concert and Tribute to Gloria Estefan at the G.R. Brown Convention Center. The orchestra performed with numerous acts, accompanying great performers including Patti La Belle, Carlos Santana, José Feliciano, Kenny G and Gloria Estefan.
Following Houston, P.O.A. traveled south to Mexico City. There, the orchestra presented a triumphant concert at the Sala Nezahualcóyotl where they perfomed Chávez Sinfonía india, Dvorák Symphony No. 9 From the New World, and Metro Chabacano by Javier Álvarez, winning piece of P.O.A.'s Second Young Composers Competition.
On their last day in Mexico City, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas participated in a Side-By-Side concert with Orquesta Sinfónica Infantil de Nezahualcóyotl. The orchestra mixed in with this enthusiastic youth orchestra for a concert after an engaging full day workshop and rehearsal at Universidad de La Salle. The tour continued with 2 more thriving concerts in Guadalajara at the Teatro Galerias and Oaxaca at the historic Teatro Macedonia Alcalá. Fervent audiences were captivated by outstanding performances. The program included Osvaldo Golijov 3 songs for Soprano interpreted by celebrated Mexican soprano Olivia Gorra.
