The Cascade Youth Orchestra Cruises on Home from Scandinavia The Cascade Youth Orchestra Kicks Off Norway's Independence Day Celebration
During June and July of this year, The Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra went on a tour to Scandinavia. Visiting Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki, the choir enjoyed the beautiful Scandinavian landscape. Kicking off their tour, the Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra held a concert at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark.
After a few days in Copenhagen, the orchestra left for Oslo, Norway, taking the cruise ship "Pearl of Scandinavia". Once in Oslo, they visited Karl Johan Promenade which plays host to central station and the Royal Palace, where the players witnessed the traditional changing of the guards. Oslo was a significant stop for the orchestra, as they opened the Independence Day Celebration given by the American Coordinating Council of Norway.
The third stop on their tour was to Stockholm, Sweden. There, they held a concert at a local museum. One tour member commented, "The students really outdid themselves with this performance - it was the best they've sounded, and everyone felt good about the concert".
For the fourth and final stop, the Orchestra made their way via cruise ship to Helsinki, Finland. There, they visited the Sibelius Monument, Helsinki Cathedral, the University of Helsinki and the Sea Fortress Suomenlinna. The Cascade Youth Orchestra concluded their tour with a concert at the Rock Church in Helsinki.
