Two World Premieres Commissioned by Classical Movements in 2009 Classical Movements' On-going Commissioning Project - Mexican & South African Composer
For the past 4 years, Classical Movements has been commissioning works for their own choral festivals and top clients as well as to support composers world-wide. Classical Movements has commissioned 6 works in the past 4 years.
The most recent are commissions by Mexican composer Jorge Cordoba Valencia and South African composer Stephen Carletti. Classical Movements commissioned Jorge Cordoba Valencia for the Yale Alumni Chorus tour to Mexico and Guatemala this summer. The Yale Alumni Chorus premiered "Tu" in August 2009 at the Sala Nezahualcoyotl hall in Mexico City.
This September, South Africa heard a World Premiere by Stephen Carletti. "Evening Canticles" was commissioned by Classical Movements in 2008 on behalf of Florida's Singing Sons during their South Africa tour. Classical Movements presented the commission to the Choir of St. George's Cathedral in Cape Town, South Africa who performed the World Premiere.
The company is currently developing a process for choosing composers, determining the types of works to be commissioned, selecting the organizations for which the works will be created, as well as setting premiere dates and venues.
