Donations of Music, Time and Money

The George Washington University Singers performed 8 concerts, 4 of which were University collaborations, and participated in a choral workshop with an African Music Specialist, all within their 10 day tour.

The choirs collaborated with the University of Cape Town Choir for a workshop and a concert on the UCT Campus. Their next concert was in collaboration with the ERUB Children's Choir from the University of Western Cape. For their final concert of the tour, the GWU Singers and Troubadours performed at the famed Endler Hall in Stellenbosch.

The Singers visited the Niall Mellon Foundation where they spent the afternoon building and painting houses for impoverished families currently living in shacks in the townships of South Africa.

While visiting with the Bokomoso Youth Center, the Singers donated mattresses, fresh foods, medicines as well as tables and chairs for the children. The George Washington University Singers also raised and donated 3,000 Rand to the Niall Mellon Foundation. This donation was facilitated by Classical Movements.

"This tour was such a success that I wish to make this trip to South Africa a regular rotation for future choral tours. We feel confident that we can continue to learn and enrich our experience in this beautiful country in the capable hands of Classical Movements."
—Gisele T. Becker, Director of Choral Activities, George Washington University
