Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Performs 7 Concerts in Japan

In October, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra departed on a 15 day concert tour to Japan. This tour by Classical Movements had the Symphony playing seven concerts in 4 cities, to Tokyo, Nagoya, Nishinomiya, and Yokohama. Led by Maestro Paavo Järvi, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performed in such halls as Suntory Hall, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Concert Hall, and NHK Hall in Tokyo, the Aichi Arts Center Concert Hall in Nagoya, the Hyogo Performing Arts Center in Nishinomiya and the Minato Mirai Concert Hall in Yokohama.

Joining the Cincinnati Symphony on tour, and returning to her home country, was 26 year old Japanese violinist Sayaka Shoji. Shoji, who became the first Japanese violinist and the youngest person ever to win the top prize at the Paganini International Violin Competition in Italy, joined the Orchestra to play the Sibelius Violin Concerto. Polish pianist Krystian Zimerman also accompanied this tour performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

"To me, one of the things that is the biggest compliment that (Japanese critics) have mentioned on more than one occasion, is that they knew it was a good orchestra when we came here first, but it's a different orchestra now. The orchestra has become really great. There's no greater compliment that I can receive, hearing that somebody can hear the orchestra getting better."
—Paavo Järvi, Music Director, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra

"We had a wonderful experience with your company and thank your staff for working so well with the CSO. In addition to getting very professional and responsive answers from you, our guests were so pleased to work out their travel details with your company. Many orchestra members thanked us for changing to your company. The savings were greatly appreciated and all travel worked out beautifully"
—Janell Weinstock, Vice President and General Manager, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
