The 1st Annual Serenade! Washington DC Choral Festival Is Off To A Rousing Start! Washington DC Welcomed Nine National and International Choral Ensembles During its Inaugural Serenade! Festival Weekend

The first Serenade! Festival featured a combination of unique ensembles varying in size and musical styles which drew several thousand audience members during the festival weekend. Choirs included: Boston Eastern Heritage Chorus (USA), Cadence (Canada), Children's Chorus of Washington (USA), Indonesia Youth Choir-Cordana (Indonesia), Konevets Quartet (Russia), Los Angeles Children's Choir (USA), Pacific Boychoir (USA), UCCSA Broadhurst Choir (Botswana), Wits Choir (South Africa).
Workshops with Stanley Thurston were held along with three performances throughout the Washington DC metro area, with a full-house finale at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, MD! The choirs joined together for a finale piece of America the Beautiful.
2012 Serenade! is even more exciting and has attracted 10 choirs from 5 continents confirmed as well as several host choirs in the Washington DC area.

True harmonic convergence in D.C.
"In the process of taking American groups around the world, we have had so many exchanges and collaborations, and we've had a great number of groups that wanted to come to the States," [Neeta] Helms says by phone from Georgia (the one that gave the world Joseph Stalin, not Jimmy Carter). "So we thought it was time to put together this festival in our own country.
"And of course, Washington is such an important choral center, if not the choral center in the United States. So it made total sense to have it here."
