Welcome Sounds, Robben Island Pilgrimage, Cape Wines, Singing Dinner
 
10 AM: Still flying high after their third trip to the BBC Proms, Classical Movements engages Happy Sounds Youth Development, a traditional “Kaapse Klopse” band from the Cape Malay community, to further lift the spirits of the Minnesota Orchestra musicians, staff and patrons after their 11-hour night flight.
 
12:15 PM: The last ferry leaves Mandela Gateway for Robben Island, where prisoner number 46664, Nelson Mandela, was incarcerated for 18 years.
 
1 PM: The first bus departs the Taj Hotel for the Western Cape Winelands Tour,where the Chenin blanc and Pinotage varietals have been cultivated since 1655.
 
8 PM: Halfway through our 14-course welcome dinner at the award-winning Gold Restaurant, Classical Movements surprises the Minnesotans with a performance from the South African Youth Choir—mere days after the ensemble, comprised of students from all nine South African provinces, dazzled our 10th Ihlombe! Choral Festival.
