You might have read in articles in the Washington Business Journal and ALXnow that Classical Movements has been instructed by the City of Alexandria that we must receive this SUP in order to continue presenting outdoor concerts. Since then, the City of Alexandria Staff have sent their report and have taken a position against our outdoor concerts, due to concerns about noise – but outdoor dining and indoor concerts are approved, even during COVID-19! The Staff recommendations have been sent to the public for the Planning Commission hearings and the City Council votes.

We do not want to let the music be silenced. For the time being, the only way to do so safely is with outdoor concerts. We are actively planning a fantastic spring and summer series, depending on approval from the City. These concerts have proven a tremendous, but worthwhile investment of time and energy; we have been gratified by the overwhelming support we have received from our artists, our audiences, and our community – and we hope that we can continue to count on your support.

If you want to add your voice and tell the City of Alexandria that you support our application Special Use Permit #2020-00102 and that the only safe way we can present live classical concerts is outdoors, you can email them directly at PlanComm@alexandriava.gov and Gloria.Sitton@alexandriava.gov for the Planning Commission and City Council respectively. Or email info@classicalmovements.com and we will forward your message to them.

If we can be of assistance, please email Adam@ClassicalMovements.com. Additionally, if you have any other advice, suggestions, or ideas for how to help, including contacts within the City, we will appreciate hearing from you.

We are proud of the concerts we have presented so far – and of the fantastic season we are planning, if the City approves our application. These live concerts give hope and harmony to our community when we need it most. Stay tuned for more details and thank you for your continued support!
