Kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, kookaburras and even dingoes may be the first things that come to mind, but Australia conjures up other magical images like the iconic Sydney Opera House, one of the world’s most visible testaments to a love and appreciation for fine classical music. With a number of modern composers, European liturgical and folk traditions, as well as indigenous musical influences, Australia’s developing musical culture makes workshops and joint concerts exciting and educational.
Classical Movements has been planning tours to Australia since 1997 organizing collaborations and performances at festivals, conservatories, cathedrals, concert halls, schools, choirs and orchestras. We have also arranged tours for numerous Australian choirs to tour Europe, Africa, South America and the United States including Gondwana Chorale, Australian Voices Six, Daley Road Singers, Young Voices of Adelaide, Vocal Fusion, Women of Note and Australian Children’s Choir, to name a few.
Some clients Classical Movements has taken to Australia include the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Morgan State University Choir, Pacific Boychoir, Yale Glee Club, St. Olaf Band, Yale-Gale Study Group. In 2011, CM partnered with Google to arrange logistics and travel for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra‘s rehearsals and performances at the Sydney Opera House. The final concert, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, was a multimedia masterpiece featuring orchestral musicians from all around the world…including a classical didgeridoo player!
